چکیده

This paper describes slab geometry studies of the difference formulation based on the original P0 formulation and a new P1 formulation. Hybrid schemes are presented, which combine the best features of the intensity and difference formulations. The aim is to design an optimal algorithm for general Monte Carlo radiation transport problems, suitable for use with both IMC and SIMC temporal discretizations. The pseudo-scattering term in the IMC temporal discretisation is identified as a major source of inefficiency in the difference formulation, making it less efficient than the original intensity formulation. By contrast, the SIMC hybrid P1 difference formulation offers a performance improvement of 3−4 orders of magnitude over the original SIMC method for an example of a deep penetration problem.

An Implicit Monte Carlo Methodfor Rarefied Gas DynamicsI. The Space Homogeneous Case

For the space homogeneous Boltzmann equation, we formulate a hybrid Monte Carlo method that is robust in the fluid dynamic limit. This method is based on an analytic representation of the solution over a single time step and involves implicit time differencing derived from a suitable power series expansion of the solution (a generalized Wild expansion). A class of implicit, yet explicitly imple...

Comparison of three different numerical schemes for 2D steady incompressible lid-driven cavity flow

In this study, a numerical solution of 2D steady incompressible lid-driven cavity flow is presented. Three different numerical schemes were employed to make a comparison on the practicality of the methods. An alternating direction implicit scheme for the vorticity-stream function formulation, explicit and implicit schemes for the primitive variable formulation of governing Navier-Stokes equatio...

Fast resolution of a single factor Heath-Jarrow-Morton model with stochastic volatility

This paper considers the single factor Heath-Jarrow-Morton model for the interest rate curve with stochastic volatility. Its natural formulation, described in terms of stochastic differential equations, is solved through Monte Carlo simulations, that usually involve rather large computation time, inefficient from a practical (financial) perspective. This model turns to be Markovian in three dim...

Studying thermal effects of laser on tissue using implicit finite volume method

In this paper, thermal effects of laser irradiance on biological tissue is investigated using computer simulations. Earlier attempts in this field made use of finite difference and finite element techniques. Here a novel approach is adopted to improve the results. The effect of our implicit approach on the convergence procedure and accuracy of results, with different timing steps, is explor...

Reliability and Sensitivity Analysis of Structures Using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Systems

In this study, an efficient method based on Monte Carlo simulation, utilized with Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is introduced for reliability analysis of structures. Monte Carlo Simulation is capable of solving a broad range of reliability problems. However, the amount of computational efforts that may involve is a draw back of such methods. ANFIS is capable of approximating str...
